Professional Artist Experience
  • Currently: Artist runs silk painting studio Silk by Claire. Provides silk painting instruction, and runs public art projects/workshops. Silk by Claire has been operating since 2006.
  • 2024: Artist in the CityArts program in Chattanooga, TN. Partnered with the Creative Discovery Museum, guiding a group of high school students through silk painting workshops at the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts. Program led to  students implementing two workshops at the children’s museum. 
  • 2023: Banner installation installed in the ArtsBuild lobby in Chattanooga
  • 2021-22: Give Way To The Wind public art collaboration with Anna Carll and Michael Brandt. Large mobile combines hand-painted silk, paper collage and aluminum and resides at the Chattanooga Convention Center. 
  • 2020: Art4Libraries program of free art workshops taught in all four locations of the Cherokee Regional Library System in NW Georgia (implemented in collaboration with Anna Carll, who taught collage classes)
  • 2019: Silk & Shades at the Library - Silk Painting project involved the community in classes and resulted in a public art installation at the Chattanooga Public Library. Installation will be up for a minimum of two years.
  • 2018-now: Participation in the Rising Fawn Studio Tour, a weekend event when local art studios open their doors to the public.
  • 2018: Two silk painting designs selected in the ArtSpark Project in Chattanooga. Designs were used to wrap utility boxes.
  • 2013-2017: Display at Area 61 Gallery (Chattanooga, TN)
  • 2012-2017: Display at Kamama’s Gallery (Mentone, AL) 
  • 2017: Volunteer at Mark Making with art therapy program at Patten Towers
  • 2013-2014: Provided art instruction at Townsend Atelier in Chattanooga
  • 2012: Artwork was featured in Chattanooga Publications Chatter Magazine and Blush Magazine.
  • 2011: Art in Motion project - Proposal for a Chattanooga bus shuttle wrapped in artwork was selected (named Breath of Life) . The bus transported the public within Chattanooga from 2011 to 2016. Project sponsored by CARTA, the River City Company and Public Art Chattanooga.
  • 2010: Eyes to the Skies - Public art project in Trenton, GA. A series of 10 handmade banners was designed, printed by Claire Vassort and displayed in a Trenton park for 6 months. Project sponsored by the Arts Council of Trenton, GA.
Other pursuits and accomplishments

  • Member of the U.S. Women's World Hang Gliding Team (1992 to 2005), Silver Medalist
  • Fully bilingual (speaks English and French fluently) 
  • Teaches French at the Chattanooga School of Language
  • Volunteered at Wings to Soar, an educational non-profit organization teaching programs about and with birds of prey.
  • A U.S. Citizen in 2003
