Art Spark Utility Boxes

The ArtSpark Utility boxes were the result of a call for artists in the fall of 2018. Designs were selected to wrap the grey metal boxes that were often covered in graffiti. A total of 15 boxes now enliven Market St and Broad St in Chattanooga, TN, for the first stage of this larger project. For these two boxes, the narrative was as follows:

This painting is meant to remind us the central role trees play in any setting, but especially in cities, where they purify the air and enliven the streets. The original medium for this design is hand-painted silk and uses the water-resist technique.

The waving grass blades symbolize the soothing effect the color green has on our mood, in the city, in the country or even inside buildings... so why not on the streets of Chattanooga. The original medium for this design is hand-painted silk and uses the water-resist technique.
